Into the Stretch Run!

Standard

After a big push over the last two weeks, I can announce that I have finished Eritan’s chapters in All Flames Cast! All that’s left now is the last chunk of Tymun’s chapters, which are plotted in such a way that I don’t think I’ll find myself bored very often…but that’s for all you to find out in due time! With a little bit of momentum from finishing Eritan and some luck, I think I’ll be able to finish the draft by the end of this month.

Okay, maybe more than just “some” luck…

Looking back on it, after finishing Harael and Eritan, I’m amused by how much this book has changed from my original outline, and I can only laugh at myself from eight months ago, when I so foolishly thought I could finish the whole book for NaNoWriMo. I was targeting 90k words for AFC at the time, and…well, no. Not even a little bit. As it stands right now, AFC is at 109k words and growing, with the expectation to finish somewhere in the 130k range. If I had the ability to finish that in one month, I’d be turning cartwheels and celebrating the end of Book Four (to be titled The Faithful, as you can read in my State of Writing update).

The cool thing is that those extra months it has taken have afforded me some time off, at points, to take a step back and consider the narrative as a whole, across the three viewpoints, and to make tweaks and fixes when I needed to. Chapters had to be added, a couple chapters were taken out entirely, and one ended up being about something completely different than I had on the outline. It’s all part of the process…

Anyway, I’m pretty excited right now. Any time I get to hit one of these big milestones on a book is thrilling, and that means that new chapters will be coming for you soon! As I’ve said in the past, I want to put out the first third of each character’s chapters, which means that three more Tymun chapters will be finding their way on here in the coming weeks. If you need to get caught up on everything I’ve already posted from AFC, you can find all twelve chapters here.
