The doors closed behind them, and Tymun grimaced. Meto, next to him, grunted.
“Am I the only one less than satisfied with what that was?”
“That? That was a farce,” Tymun growled. He ignored the small whimper that came from Artius, behind them. “We will never get answers. Or restitution.”
Meto snorted, shrugging his wide shoulders. “We’re soldiers. When do we ever get what we want?”
“When? Right burning now, that’s when,” Tymun responded, moving with long strides down the hall, hoping to leave the building as soon as possible. “I want a drink, and I intend to get one. We didn’t get to celebrate last night, and that needs to be remedied.”
The mountain trail, faint and overgrown as it was, twisted away down and to the west. The setting sun, blazing hues of orange and red over the far plains, shed enough light to reveal the tracks of deer over the bared dirt. The tang of early autumn bit into the air, just a hint, but enough to remind Tymun of past years, training under the myriad golds and yellows of oak leaves.
The ground beneath his feet was uneven, broken at odd intervals by cracks and roots. Dry dust puffed at his every step, settling behind him only to be disturbed again by the long trail of men, winding single file back up the slope.Continue reading
After a big push over the last two weeks, I can announce that I have finished Eritan’s chapters in All Flames Cast! All that’s left now is the last chunk of Tymun’s chapters, which are plotted in such a way that I don’t think I’ll find myself bored very often…but that’s for all you to find out in due time! With a little bit of momentum from finishing Eritan and some luck, I think I’ll be able to finish the draft by the end of this month.
Welcome back to Drew’s WoT Reread! I finally got some time to sit down with TSR, do some thinking, and hammer out another reread post for all of you. So keep your little white cloaks on, people…this is when WoT gets real.
As always, spoilers for the entire series are present. The introduction post is here. You can find all previous entries here. And now, onward. Let the Dragon ride again on the winds of time!
Dcafwriting has been pretty dead lately, I know. Blame the NHL and specifically the New York Rangers for still hanging around in the playoffs. My writing and reading time gets drastically reduced when all I can think about is hockey. But…
New content is coming to Dcafwriting very soon!
Keep an eye out this weekend for a new WoT reread post as I get going on The Shadow Rising; a new short story set in the world of Trayan and Mar, an indirect prequel to “Winters Past”, will also be finding its way onto the site. All this work is setup for my next project over the summer—a novella about Mar and Trayan! As I close in on finishing the first draft of All Flames Cast, I’ve been ramping up the worldbuilding for this novella.
The moral of the story is, yeah, I’ve been slow about posting lately, but it will be picking up in the near future as NHL saturation is decreasing. My life will return to some kind of normalcy, and that means new content for all of you!
Any writer knows about deadlines. Whether you’re a creative writer working on a draft, or a copywriter slogging through an article or manual, you understand how a deadline looms every time you sit down and put your fingers to the keyboard.
That dark cloud hovers in the back of your mind, tensing the muscles in your shoulders. A little bundle of urgency bubbles in your stomach. The thing is, deadlines are both a blessing and a curse. Continue reading
Welcome back to Drew’s WoT Reread! I realize it’s been way too long since the last installment. All I can say is that you should blame the NHL for having their playoffs right now and for hockey being so awesome. Anyway, today we finish The Dragon Reborn (finally)!
